Follow the following steps to get your iPhone working on the Vanderbilt Wi-Fi network. The network your are connecting to is secure and will require you to enter your vnetid and e-password to work. These are what you use to retrieve your email. Additionally, you will need to obtain the proper SSID to compete this process. IF you know what it is then feel free to follow this procedure. If you do not know the SSID or network name then you will need to ask Richard Lescallette, Josh Keckley, or Nolan Smith to obtain the SSID to use. Please email one of us to get the SSID sent to you. We choose not to display this information in the tech tip for security reasons.
STEP ONE (Go to the settings page) From the home screen of your iPhone you should select the settings icon which will bring you to a page like the one show below. Press the entry labeled Wi-Fi. The text for the connected Wi-Fi network has been changed for security reasons.
STEP TWO (Wi-Fi Screen): After you select the Wi-Fi option as shown in the 1st step you will start the configuration process. You should see a screen similar to the one shown below. Be sure Wi-Fi is turned ON and select the OTHER option. This will allow you to enter the information needed to connect to the secure wireless network
STEP THREE (OTHER NETWORK SCREEN) After selecting OTHER in the previous step you will see the screen below with the keyboard displayed. Use this to enter the name of the network you want to join. In this case the network name will be the SSID sent to you by email. After you enter the network name press the security button.
STEP FOUR (Security Selection) This one is easy, select the last option in the list as shown and then select the back key. You will then be able to enter your credentials to gain access to the wi-fi network.
Step Five (Confirm Certificate) After selecting WPA2 Enterprise you will see the screen below to confirm the security certificate. Simply press the accept key in this step to continue the setup process.
STEP FIVE (Enter Your Credentials) Enter your vnetid and epassword into the fields as shown in the above below. When you click on a field the keyboard will appear to let you enter your information. Note this image masks the SSID. The one you entered in the previous step will be displayed when you perform these steps on an actual iPhone.
STEP FIVE (Confirm Connection) You will be this screen on your iPhone if you have followed all the steps correctly. As you can see there is a lock icon next to the network name and the current signal strength. Depending on where you are the signal strength may vary. This is normal but sometimes the signal gets week enough the phone will revert to the 3G or Edge network. Also sometimes it helps to simply turn the wi-fi off and back on again if you feel you are having issues with connectivity.
STEP SIX (Return to Home Screen) Press the settings key in the upper left hand corner of the screen to return to your home screen. Note that in the example below the full signal strength indicator next to the AT&T logo.
