Kurt Smith, MD

Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine 

Dr. Smith completed medical school at Harvard Medical School, then did residency and served as Chief Resident at the University of Cincinnati Hospital prior to coming to Vanderbilt as faculty. He has won several teaching awards with the Emergency Medicine residency, including the Corey M. Slovis Award for Teaching Excellence. Dr. Smith has an interest in both resident and medical student education and has been involved in the medical student clerkship, the Vanderbilt Wilderness Medicine Society, and the School of Medicine's Master Clinical Teacher faculty. Dr. Smith and his wife Sara have six children, one dog, and an assortment of other animals. He enjoys hiking, camping, any type of fishing, basketball, bonsai trees and gardening.
