Dr. R. Scott Frankenfield was born and raised in the great state of Indiana. He grew up in a small, rural town before moving to the big city of Indianapolis for his undergraduate degree in Chemistry from the University of Indianapolis. He was a 4 year varsity letter winner at UIndy in track. Wanting to explore the world after college, he began his medical education at the American University of the Caribbean on the tropical island paradise of St. Maarten, where he lived for 2 years before moving to Chicago to finish his medical degree. After rotations in Emergency Medicine and Trauma Surgery at Cook County Hospital, he developed a love for Emergency Medicine, but not so much for the urban setting. Knowing that one day he wanted to return to a rural life, he completed a family medicine residency with Community Health Network in Indianapolis. While in his final year of residency, he served as Chief Resident and was also named the Family Medicine Resident of the Year by the Indiana Academy of Family Physicians. After residency he continued working weekly shifts in emergency departments, but also established a rural primary care clinic in his hometown where his practice included outpatient and inpatient medicine, as well as obstetrics. Dr. Frankenfield moved to Wilson County, TN in 2009 and shortly thereafter decided to follow his passion and dedicate his career solely to Emergency Medicine. Since that time, he has served as the medical director of 3 different facilities and in 2014 was named the Envision Emergency Medicine Director of the Year.
Dr. Frankenfield is married to his beautiful wife, Jennifer, and they have a “Brady Bunch” with 7 children between them. In addition to all of the wonderful activities his children are involved in, he enjoys boating, traveling, and listening to 80’s hair band rock music. He is a fan of Purdue Athletics, the Dallas Mavericks, New Orleans Saints, and the Chicago Cubs. Dr. Frankenfield is currently earning his Master of Management in Healthcare from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management.
