Jim Olechna was born and raised in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He attended the University of Scranton where he graduated with a major in Exercise Science and Sport with a concentration in Nutrition Studies. He subsequently obtained his Master in Health Administration (MHA) at the University of Scranton and completed his administrative residency at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in the Department of Pathology and Clinical Labs. He then went on to work in the Department of Finance where he focused on long range strategic planning, operational budgeting, business intelligence, and financial analytics. Recognizing his passion for the improvement of clinical outcomes and business operations, he worked toward a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt from Villanova University. Jim went on to work as an Enterprise Improvement Advisor in the Center for Healthcare Quality and Analytics (CHQA) where he focused on enterprise initiatives surrounding patient flow and capacity, patient transport, high-level disinfection and sterilization, medication reconciliation, and designing and implementing a meds to beds program with the CHOP pharmacy. The next leg of his career journey brought him to Supply Chain Logistics where he was the Distribution Operations Manager overseeing CHOP’s medical and surgical inventory, warehouse, freight, courier, and mail service operations. In December 2021, Jim moved from Philadelphia to Nashville and joined Vanderbilt as an Administrative Officer where he oversaw all departmental functions related to finance and HR. In March 2024, Jim was named Chief Business Officer, in which his scope of responsibilities encompasses all departmental business-related matters. In his free time, Jim enjoys spending time with his family and friends, physical activities including running, skiing, and rowing, traveling to new destinations, and cooking and entertaining.
